When Lin-Manuel Miranda and Phillipa Soo go their separate ways following their runs in Hamilton, take solace in knowing they’re not parting for good. (Cue: ensemble singing “the orphanage” and subsequent gallons of tears.) According to Entertainment Weekly, the Tony-nominated leading lady has joined the cast of the upcoming Disney film Moana, featuring music by Miranda.
Soo has been tapped to play a villager of the South Pacific island of Motunui. She joins a cast that includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as mythic Demigod Maui and newcomer Auli’I Cravalho as the titular teenage princess. The film will premiere on November 23.
In addition to her Broadway debut as Eliza Schuyler Hamilton in the musical juggernaut, Soo headlined the off-Broadway premiere of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. She has appeared on screen in Smash.
